The Becket Pageant 17-18 June 2022

A glorious sunny day saw the opening of the Becket Pageant in the Guildhall Yard, just steps from where Thomas Becket was born in 1118.

Broderers joined 20 other Livery companies to demonstrate their crafts and recreate a 16th century Livery Fayre. Students from the Royal School of Needlework were demonstrating the art of embroidery while Broderers talked with many visitors about the Company and some of the pieces on display.

Fellow Broderers (L to R) Ann Esslemont, Liz Elvin and Kitty Adam arranging the samples of embroidery at the start of the day.

One of the RSN students demonstration frame. Showing different stitches and the use of some unexpected materials – the two orange ‘sweets’ are actual sweet wrappers!
