Retirement of Dr. Susan Kay-Williams

Retirement of Dr. Susan Kay-Williams,
Chief Executive of the Royal School of Needlework

29 August 2024

At the end of August Susan retired after seventeen years as Chief Executive of the Royal School. The team at the School organised a brilliant party to say good bye and presented Susan with an amazing stitched gift by which she could remember her time at the School.

There are 16 segments in the design and with the central flower making 17, reflecting Susan’s seventeen years. 66 people contributed to the stitching including trustees, staff, tutors and volunteers. So that’s 66 pairs of super washed hands; 10 needles used; threading 200 metres of wool across 16 colours with gold and silver thread left over from a very large Royal project the school completed last year!!

Everyone who contributed to the stitching was photographed, needle in hand, all captured in a book for Susan, that she can enjoy when she might have a little more time on her hands.

The Broderers enjoy the longest standing relationship with the School – we have been supporting them since 1899 – and we wish Susan all the very best for the next stage in her life.
